Inspired by a drawing from an older sketchbook. I wanted to experiment more with oil pastels on canvas as the sketch had been fully drawn with them. It was extremely liberating to paint as though I were sketching, this piece was fueled by coffee and house music with a special mention to "Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue which got me into the 'flow state'.

In the later stages of the painting, however, the piece fully encompassed the 'grunge' genre hence my naming of the piece 'Renton' (from transporting one of my favourite films) as well as my decision to write the chemical formula for "Lithium" (Li) in the top right-hand corner of the piece which of course is a Nirvana tune, a band I hold very close to my heart.
